Bonzai Marlin Spear12 MTB - Text Review

The Marlin Spear12 is a performance-focused 29-inch hardtail designed for cross-country riding and demanding mountain trails. It combines a triple-butted 6061 aluminium frame with modern Boost axle spacing and internal cable routing. The Shimano Deore 1×12 drivetrain provides a wide gearing range without the complexity of a front derailleur. An SR Suntour XCR32 air fork adds 100mm of controlled suspension travel. Tektro hydraulic brakes and premium SunRingle wheels complete the performance package. At ₹69,990, it targets riders looking for a serious XC machine rather than a basic recreational MTB.

“A lightweight, race-focused hardtail with a genuinely premium component package.”

The Spear12 features a triple-butted 6061 aluminium frame with smooth welds and a tapered head tube. Internal cable routing keeps the cockpit and frame visually clean while reducing exposed cables. Boost 148×12mm rear spacing adds stiffness and improves wheel stability during aggressive riding. The frame is also dropper-post ready, giving riders the option to upgrade for steeper descents. M and L sizes accommodate riders from approximately 165cm to 186cm. Its geometry is clearly designed around efficient XC performance and controlled trail handling.

“The modern Boost frame gives the Spear12 a strong and purposeful XC foundation.”
